1. Raiders fire Josh McDaniels and Dave Ziegler
The Raiders parted ways with head coach Josh McDaniels and general manger Dave Ziegler on Halloween night.
The Las Vegas Raiders have relieved Josh McDaniels and David Ziegler of their duties as head coach and general manager, the team announced late Tuesday night.
“After much thought about what the Raiders need to move forward, I have decided to part ways with Josh and Dave,” said Raiders Owner Mark Davis. “I want to thank them both for their hard work and wish them and their families nothing but the best.”
2. James Harden and Clippers get what they want, but at what cost?
The Clippers traded for James Harden and P.J. Tucker while keeping Terance Mann and Norman Powell but was it worth it?
The Clippers are sending Robert Covington, Nicolas Batum, Marcus Morris, KJ Martin, a 2028 unprotected first-round pick, two second round picks, a 2029 pick swap, and 1 other first round pick from OKC in 2026 for James Harden and P.J. Tucker. I know it is a handful to process, so let’s break it down.
This is a win for both teams in my opinion, as the Clippers shed some expiring salary and wing depth, while adding a 10-time All-Star in James Harden and a defensive grinder in P.J. Tucker. Also, the Clippers get to keep Terance Mann, Norm Powell, and Bones Hyland, all three of which were included in talks throughout the process.
For the Sixers, they get a reunion with Robert Covington (who has looked fantastic defensively to start the season), Marcus Morris (who is from Philadelphia and should get some run), Nicolas Batum (who is a great slasher, 3-point shooter and flexible defender), and K.J. Martin (who is a high-flying lob threat).
These four players should get some good playing time for a Sixer team that already has Joel Embiid, Tyrese Maxey, Tobias Harris and Kelly Oubre. Not to mention, they get those essential draft picks, which can be flipped alongside the assets they just acquired, to acquire more talent.
3. Clippers rout Magic amid pending roster moves, 118-98
The Clippers continued to make headlines with their most recent triumph over Orlando and the arrival of their newest addition, James Harden.
The Clippers advance to 3-1 and initiate their first win streak of the year. Their lone loss to the Utah Jazz came on the road, while the team remains undefeated at Crypto.com Arena this regular season (3-0).
Paul George was the difference-maker for the Clippers against Orlando. He scored back-to-back three-pointers that capped off a 10-0 Clippers run in the third, and took his team from a 1-point advantage to a 10-point one.
George finished the game at 8-17 from the field and 6-9 from deep to lead the team with 27 points. Fourteen of those points came in the third quarter alone.
4. Kings stay undefeated on the road, beat Maple Leafs, 4-1
The Kings are undefeated in their first four road games in the 2023-24 season.
Opposing crowd? No problem for the Los Angeles Kings.
The Kings opened a three-game road trip on Tuesday, defeating the Toronto Maple Leafs 4-1. They extended their undefeated road record to 4-0, displaying dominance away from Los Angeles.
The Kings’ success on the road has been fueled by their penalty kill. They entered Tuesday’s game a perfect ten-of-ten on the penalty kill on the road. Against the Maple Leafs, they killed three-of-four power plays, but the three they killed helped them build a lead.
The Kings’ first penalty kill came early in the first period, giving them momentum. Shortly after, 6:38 into the first period, Andreas Englund scored his first NHL goal off a deflected backhanded shot, giving the Kings a 1-0 lead. The Kings stayed strong on the penalty kill as they continued adding goals throughout the night.
5. NJPW’s Tom Lawlor supports major industry changes with concussions
Tom Lawler would like professional wrestling organizations to take concussions more seriously.
He is known as “Filthy” Tom Lawlor and he is a former UFC Fighter and now current Professional Wrestler signed to NJPW. The company just held their “Fighting Spirit Unleashed” PPV in Las Vegas, Nevada and I got the chance to ask him about how he feels about Jon Moxley’s recent comments wanting change in regards to Concussion treatment in an interview with The Messenger.
“They (WWE & AEW) should be working with their own in-house team…. or the Cleveland Clinic Lue Rovo for Brain Health and sending their talent every year for baseline testing and monitoring”
6. Hawai’i football hits new low, suffers 1st home shutout in 25 years
After hitting what seemed like rock-bottom last week at New Mexico, Hawai'i found deeper depths during homecoming against SJSU, writes The Sporting Tribune’s Paul Brecht.
It was a homecoming game to remember for some players connected with the University of Hawai’i football program as San Jose State visited Mānoa for the first time in two years.
The problem? Those players suit up for the San Jose State Spartans now.
The Hawai’i Rainbow Warriors (2-7, 0-4 MWC) fell to the San Jose State Spartans (4-5, 3-2 MWC) Saturday night, 35-0, as UH lost on homecoming night for the first time since 2016. SJSU has now won four consecutive meetings between the programs, the longest winning streak for the Spartans in the series.
