1. Lakers’ Anthony Davis expects to play in Game 6
The Sporting Tribune's Mark Medina writes Anthony Davis expects to play in Game 6 against the Warriors after suffering head injury.
It appears the Los Angeles Lakers avoided a nightmare scenario involving their dominant star missing a key playoff game because of a serious injury.
Less than a day after Anthony Davis exited the final 7:34 of the Lakers’ Game 5 loss to the Golden State Warriors after forward Kevon Looney inadvertently elbowed him, Lakers coach Darvin Ham said the medical staff has listed Davis as “probable” for Game 6 on Friday at Staples Center.
“He’s feeling great,” Ham said Thursday afternoon on a conference call with reporters. “Our medical staff gave us a great update. He’s not in the protocol. He’s not showing any signs of anything.”
Ham also confirmed that the Lakers’ medical staff specifically diagnosed Davis on whether he suffered a concussion.
“We wouldn’t go out and make statements without that being the case,” Ham said. “We follow protocols, not just with AD, but any of our players and any of our employees.”
2. Lakers get another shot to eliminate the Warriors
Lakers lead the series, 3-2, against the defending champion Golden State Warriors and have a chance to advance to the Western Conference Finals with a win at home. The Sporting Tribune’s Rey Moralde has more on tonight’s big game.
The Lakers have yet another chance to put away the defending champion Golden State Warriors. And this is their only shot on defeating them in Los Angeles. Otherwise, Game 7 will happen in a hostile environment in San Francisco.
Of course, the story that came out of Game 5 was the health of Anthony Davis. He got hit in the face by Kevon Looney's forearm and had to exit the game early.
The talk about this was already extremely stupid from social media to the mainstream media themselves. It's a lot of loaded bull from a lot of these people. But the update is that Anthony Davis is not in the concussion protocol and he's listed as probable for Game 6. I'm happy that he's healthy so let's move on.
On the other side, Andrew Wiggins is questionable because of a fracture in the ribcage area. It happened late in the game on a boxout. Wiggins has been huge in the last couple of games for the Warriors and I hope he can play in this game. I want everyone to be healthy!
3. Tom Brady in talks to become limited Raiders partner
Tom Brady may be a part of the Las Vegas Raiders next season after all.
Tom Brady is in deep discussions to become a limited partner of the Las Vegas Raiders, according to ESPN.
An announcement could come two months after Brady and Raiders owner Mark Davis, who also owns the WNBA champion Las Vegas Aces, accounted Brady had acquired an ownership interest in the Aces.
Brady’s investment, according to the report is expected to be “passive” and he would “not have not have any operational control or authority over the club in business or football matters.”
When Davis bought the Aces two years ago, he said he was interested in building synergy between the Raiders and Aces. The Aces recently opened a 64,000-square-foot training facility next to the Raiders’ headquarters in Henderson. It’s the first facility in the WNBA’s history built specifically for a WNBA team.
4. Five primetime games highlight Raiders season
The Las Vegas Raiders will open the season with three of their first four games on the road. The Sporting Tribune’s W.G. Ramirez has more on the Raiders’ schedule.
One of the most anticipated days of the year for NFL fans is the schedule release.
For Raider Nation, things are clearer as the Las Vegas Raiders now have an idea of how the 2022-23 campaign will pan out with the 10th most difficult schedule based on their opponents' winning percentage from last season.
Raiders opponents produced a winning percentage of .524 last season. Considering Las Vegas went 6-11 and will have a different quarterback leading the offense for the first time in 10 years, the challenge is daunting for the upcoming campaign.
With the 17-game format in place for the third season, the Raiders will host nine games and play eight on the road after their three preseason games against the 49ers (home), Rams (road), Cowboys (road).
5. Chargers 2023 schedule release analysis
The Chargers’ schedule has been released in typical anime fashion, and here is The Sporting Tribune’s Fernando Ramirez’s quick analysis.
The 2023 NFL schedule has been released. It feels like NFL schedule release day is the Super Bowl for most social media teams.
The Chargers used anime again to release their schedule and they weren’t playing around. On the field though, Justin Herbert and Co. feature six nationally televised games, so fans will be able to see plenty of the Chargers this season.
6. A look at the Rams’ 2023 schedule
The Rams' schedule is fairly balanced, but they have several tough tests throughout. The Sporting Tribune’s Kamran Nia has more on the Rams’ schedule.
The schedule release is one of the most exciting days for NFL fans. The chance to discover when their favorite teams’ rivals come to town or other exciting matchups is all revealed.
For the Los Angeles Rams fan base, they see a schedule where they will be underdogs in most of their matchups. After a 5-12 record last season and the release of multiple starters, expectations are low for the Rams. However, every team begins its season undefeated, and the Rams will carry an underdog mentality with them as they hope to return to the playoffs.
Multiple Rams whose seasons were cut short last season should also return, including the likes of quarterback Matthew Stafford, wide receiver Cooper Kupp, and defensive lineman Aaron Donald, giving Rams fans some hope for a successful season.
