1. Bush gets back 2005 Heisman Trophy, No. 5 to be re-retired
USC now has eight Heisman Trophies, the most of any school in the country, after Regie Bush got his 2005 Heisman Trophy back.
Reggie Bush finally has his 2005 Heisman Trophy back, the Heisman Trust announced on Wednesday with a photo of Bush reunited with his trophy.
Bush originally gave up his Heisman Trophy in 2010 following severe NCAA sanctions against USC in the wake of an investigation which concluded, among other things, that Bush had received “improper benefits” while he was in school.
Those “improper benefits” are not improper in today’s college athletics and seem minor in hindsight compared the multi-million-dollar deals college athletes are now making while in school. USC quarterback Caleb Williams, who will be the No. 1 pick in this week’s NFL Draft and won the Heisman Trophy in 2022, reportedly made over $10 million in Name, Image and Likeness deals and endorsements during two years at USC.
2. Golden Knights down Stars again, take 2-0 series lead
The Golden Knights were the only team in this year’s playoffs to win their opener on the road. They doubled down on Wednesday night, beating the Stars 3-1, writes The Sporting Tribune’s Will Despart.
The NHL’s boogeyman has officially arrived.
After what can only be described as a tumultuous regular season, the Golden Knights have taken a 2-0 lead over the top-seeded Dallas Stars with a 3-1 victory in Game 2.
The win presents a reality that many of us close to the team have come to accept over the last few weeks, and one that salt-ridden fans of teams across the league will soon realize themselves. If they haven’t already.
When fully healthy and in playoff mode, this Vegas group is still among the best in the league. And still very much among the top tier of contenders who have a legitimate chance at lifting the cup in June.
The Knights rode a second period goal from Noah Hanifin and a two-point effort from Jack Eichel all the way home, removing an early 1-0 deficit on their way to their third straight postseason win against the Stars dating back to last year’s Western Conference Finals.
3. Kopitar leads Kings in OT thriller, series tied 1-1
The Los Angeles Kings survived a tough Game 2 in Edmonton. Kopitar scores in overtime to tie the series. Game 3 is set for Friday night in Los Angeles, writes The Sporting Tribune’s Fredo Cervantes.
The Edmonton Oilers faced the Los Angeles Kings in Game 2 after they scored seven goals on Monday. Zach Hyman, is coming off an impressive performance in Game 1. Kings head coach Jim Hiller insisted in getting his team to play together and that’s certainly the way they opened the game.
The game was a thriller as Los Angeles ties the series at 1-1 after the captain, Anze Kopitar, scored the game-winning goal in overtime.
In the first game of the series, the Kings suffered a meltdown. However, they made a strong start in the second game, with Adrian Kempe scoring the first two goals, both assisted by Anze Kopitar. This helped the Kings maintain their defensive game in the first period, keeping the Oilers at bay. The Oilers’ Brett Kulak did manage to score, reducing the lead to 2-1. But soon after, Drew Doughty scored and expanded the lead to 3-1, silencing the crowd inside Rogers Place.
4. Dodgers rout Nationals in dominant win
Knack and Pages lead Los Angeles to a much needed blowout victory in Washington D.C., writes The Sporting Tribune’s Grant Mona.
Rookies Landon Knack (1-1) and Andy Pages made a huge impact on the Dodgers huge 11-2 victory over the Nationals.
Knack, the young right-hander, tossed six innings of two-run baseball, while only allowing three hits to go along with three walks and five strikeouts. On the other hand, the Dodgers finally tagged right-hander Jake Irvin of the Nationals for six earned runs after he pitched well last week.
This was the best offensive performance of the season for Los Angeles, as they put up 20 hits with five players in the lineup having multi-hit games.
5. Angels drop series finale to Orioles, 6-5
Jo Adell was called out at second base to end the game and halt the Angels comeback in a 6-5 loss to the Orioles, writes The Sporting Tribune’s Anthony Bautista.
The Angels comeback efforts fell just short in a 6-5 loss to the Baltimore Orioles, the finale of a 3-game set at Angel Stadium.
The final play of the game, a tag out at second involving Jo Adell was met with some controversy.
Ehire Adrianza hit a single in the bottom of the 9th and after an error at first, advanced all the way to third base. Following a groundout by Logan O’Hoppe, Adrianza scored to bring the Halos within one run, 6-5. After getting walked with two outs, Jo Adell attempted to steal second and was called out.
The Angels challenged the play, but the call stood.

Ahead of travel basketball in the summer, West Mania pitted teams from the Nike EYBL, Adidas 3SSB, and Puma PRO16 circuits against each other over a single weekend, writes The Sporting Tribune’s Wilko Martinez-Cachero.
